Writing

Writing
Editing is a difficult skill to pick up. Encourage your child to re-read their writings. Always follow a check list so that you have a better chance of catching all errors.

Writing Check List
1. I have a title
2. Every sentence begins with a capital letter.
3. Every sentence ends with a punctuation mark (period, exclamtion point, question mark)
4. I have re-read my writing to find any words I may have forgotten or that my writing makes sense (sounds correct).

Paragraph Writing
We are working on centering titles, indenting, writing a topic sentence, writing 3 detailed sentences as the body and ending with a sentence that restates the topic. For example:

Dragon

**Dragon is a silly and hungry dinosaur. He tries to be a wise shopper at the grocery store. Dragon thinks he is buying healthy foods from the food groups. He always ends up buying too much junk food. Dragon is a funny dinosaur.

Dear Froggy,

How are you doing?  Thank you for helping
me in my garden. I already had a butterfly visit
my flowers.  I hope to see you soon.

                                             Your friend,
                                             Bear
